"Our vision is to supply Greece with all dry ice applications, from production to blasting."

ASCO spoke to Dasiras Fragiskos, General Manager of Dry Ice Creation in Athens, Greece, about the dry ice situation in his country. Fragiskos shares his views on the key sectors of the dry ice industry and future revenue potential, the importance of dry ice blasting, and his vision of becoming a one-stop shop for dry ice in Greece.

ASCO: Please give us a brief introduction to your company. What do you specialise in?
Dry Ice Creation: From the very beginning, our vision has been to create a company that offers everything to do with dry ice. We want to be able to handle any order or service, any sale, no matter how small or large. Our priority is to provide an immediate service with fresh dry ice for our customers.

ASCO: Your company was founded in 2013 – how has the dry ice market in Greece developed in general since then?
Dry Ice Creation: We founded the company in 2013, but we have been working with dry ice since 2004. Over the years, we realised that finding dry ice on a daily basis was a major problem, and so we founded Dry Ice Creation. After seven years in business, we are proud of our name, as we are the number one dry ice supplier in Greece. Some of the uses for our dry ice include: medical work, pharmaceutical distribution, industrial applications, food distribution, artistic events, television, shipyards, international air transport, restaurants, hotels and bars, distribution across all the islands, etc.

Our company has dedicated itself specifically to international air transport to solve the problem of frozen food logistics for companies around the world. This has led to close collaboration with the two largest airlines in the world. As a result, any company with frozen food or products that need to be frozen can now arrange transport with just a single phone call to our offices.... We take care of the rest. We ensure the correct packaging, which must comply with international regulations. We also produce the appropriate labels and have the expertise to determine the correct amount of dry ice required for each shipment.

ASCO: You offer industrial dry ice cleaning using an ASCOJET 1708 and an ASCO Nanojet. In which sectors are your main customers?
Dry Ice Creation: At the same time as we were establishing dry ice in Greece, we were also looking into a new industrial cleaning solution: dry ice blasting. We were in contact with the company best suited to this – ASCO. The truth is that Greece doesn’t have a mechanical engineering industry like other European countries – you see, our mechanical engineering industry is the sun and the sea, the holidays and the hospitable people on our islands – and these don’t need dry ice blasting. But for industrial manufacturing, which exists all over the world, particularly in the food industry, dry ice blasting is very useful.  Several technical managers have heard of it, but didn’t know where to source it or how to use it. So they definitely need someone to show them in person what dry ice blasting is and how it works for their product and their work. For the past year, we have carried out many demonstrations at various companies. Many people have expressed an interest in either renting a machine or buying one. With the development of this type of cleaning in our country, it is worth mentioning that there is a company everyone can turn to for all information regarding dry ice blasting. So the interest that has grown over time is very important for this type of work, but the most important thing is the name behind this work... and at this point, that name is ASCO. A guarantee for all ventures involving dry ice.

ASCO: Are you planning to set up dry ice production for the distribution of dry ice pellets/blocks?
Dry Ice Creation: It would be natural for you to think that we produce dry ice ourselves... Well, no... At least not yet! We work in partnership with a large and well-known European gas company. Through a very close and trusting relationship, we are therefore working together on the development of sales and customer service. The question you should NOT ask me is, if we were to have four production machines, whether they would be from ASCO. Of course they would be from ASCO... where else would they be from? Thanks to ASCO, non-stop dry ice production can be guaranteed. We are sincerely grateful that these machines at our partner’s production site have never let us down, no matter how extensive or urgent the production orders were.

ASCO: What are your plans for the future?
Dry Ice Creation: Our vision? A vision as a concept is an idea that becomes a goal, and this process never stops because every person has needs. So, at this point, one of our visions has come true, and that is providing all solutions for dry ice applications. As for our next goal, please allow me not to announce it just yet... but I will certainly do so in the future! But while we’re on the subject of the future, we’d also like to express a wish for people all over the world, no matter where they are... We wish you good health with all our hearts, for the virus crisis has shown us how fragile our health is and how easily everyone’s life can be turned upside down. We hope that we can overcome this pandemic and take back control of our lives and our daily routines, so that we can once again see smiling faces along our path. Many thanks to our staff and partners at ASCO, and best wishes for better days to come.
