Producing our own dry ice increases our flexibility and reduces production downtime
1. In which sectors do your main customers operate?
Derckx Opticare specialises in dry ice cleaning. Our customers operate in various sectors. For example, the food industry, mechanical engineering, construction companies, painting contractors and almost all other sectors.
2. You are a cleaning company with a variety of clients – do your clients prefer cleaning with high-pressure water jets or with dry ice blasting systems?
We always clean our customers’ premises using the best possible technology. Where water cannot be used, dry ice is employed. Even if the dirt cannot be removed with water or other techniques, this is the best option. Whether it’s water, manual labour or dry ice blasting, the cost factor almost always plays a role. Another reason to choose dry ice blasting is the absence of residues. The dry ice sublimates immediately upon impact with the surface.
3. Where do you see the advantages of producing your own dry ice compared to purchasing it?
In-house production is a very important factor for us. We always have the right amount of dry ice available, which reduces production downtime. The logistical effort involved in purchasing and managing dry ice is also lower, and we have greater flexibility as freshly produced dry ice is always available.
4. How much dry ice do you produce with the P28i in a week?
We produce up to 30 tonnes of dry ice with the P28i. We use various pelletisers, such as the A90P and A220P. The allocation across the machines is based on demand. In summer, we produce around 60–80 tonnes per week.
5. The P28i has been in operation at your site since summer 2020 – how satisfied are you with the dry ice pelletisers?
We are very satisfied with the P28i. It is easy to operate and the quality of the dry ice is excellent. That is why it is already our fourth pelletiser from ASCO.
6. In your opinion, what are the advantages of the P28i?
The P28i is easy to operate and the quality of the dry ice is very good. As we have several small pelletisers, there is hardly any downtime due to faults. It is also possible to produce several different products (3 or 16 mm pellets) without changing the discs.
7. Please give us a brief introduction to your company.
Derckx Opticare is a family-run business and has been active in many sectors using dry ice blasting since 1994. In 2004, we started our own dry ice production, for which we purchased the A90P. Since 2004, our subsidiary CryoRent has been active in the rental of dry ice machines and the supply of dry ice to our customers. From 2004 to the present day, we have specialised in high-pressure cleaning using water at pressures ranging from 500 to 2500 bar, as well as all types of dry ice cleaning. With these techniques, we are a key player in dry ice blasting and the removal of deposits and dirt from a wide range of surfaces.
The company operates throughout the Netherlands and also in other European countries for specialist projects. We have received orders from Germany, Belgium, England, Denmark, Switzerland, Spain and Kuwait.
