The increased awareness of dry ice as a highly efficient cooling medium, triggered by the shipment of Covid19 vaccine, led to new market requirements. The "ASCO Refilling System ARS” for dry ice pellets was worked out in cooperation with companies from the logistics industry and German development partner “Joest”.
The requirement was to dose the dry ice pellets, delivered by dry ice producers in transport containers, with a high degree of accuracy and undamaged into smaller packaging units. Here, the extremely low temperature of the product and the associated temperature difference to the environment was a particular challenge. Different transport containers in the feed, various selectable batch sizes and the intermediate storage of the crate volume had to be integrated in the system solution.
For the "ASCO Refilling System ARS”, an individually adapted load handling device was designed and manufactured to hold the container, as well as a product hopper to hold the dry ice pellets. Special oscillating conveyors are used for product dosing and for bunker discharge. All cold-sensitive areas are hooded accordingly. For maximum flexibility, an extendable distribution chute is installed. The entire system is operated by an intelligent control system with dosing logic 2.0.
