According to the Managing Director, Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Norbert Stein, quartz sand was used as standard for cleaning the casting tools until the introduction of dry ice. However, according to his own statement, this had considerable disadvantages, such as higher abrasion on the tools to be cleaned. The repair effort for the hydraulic cylinders was increased because the adhering quartz sand led to wear of the seals. In addition, the higher dust content not only led to pollution in the ambient air for the employees (health protection) but also had a negative effect on general cleanliness. Machine and mold cleaning was therefore always associated with a high level of effort. The use of dry ice blasting increased the efficiency of the cleaning process, resulting in cost savings.
