Effective vault restoration thanks to dry ice blasting
The challenge with this project was that there was no, or very little, fresh air supply in the vaulted cellar. Consequently, special care had to be taken to ensure the safety of the cleaning staff. The operator of the dry ice blasting machine was fitted with a hood through which fresh air could be supplied via a hose. This allowed the work to be carried out safely. By using dry ice blasting technology, the walls and ceiling could be cleaned quickly and thoroughly without leaving behind any troublesome residues such as dirty water, blasting agents or chemicals. The dry ice used turns into a gaseous state and evaporates.
Dry ice blasting is an efficient, gentle and non-abrasive process, which is why it is often used for cleaning sensitive surfaces, amongst other things. Unlike conventional blasting methods (using sand or glass beads), the surfaces are not damaged or altered. The dry ice blasting process was therefore the ideal and most effective solution for refurbishing the vaulted cellar at the Hotel Traube in Buchs.
