Expansion of dry ice production in Khartoum

To supply its market with high-quality dry ice, ASCO’s customer, The Modern Acetylene & Oxygen Company Ltd., recently purchased two ASCO P28i dry ice pelletisers. The Sudanese company and ASCO have enjoyed a long-standing business relationship and a pleasant working partnership. Their plant not only produces dry ice, but they also operate three ASCO CO₂ production plants to supply the African drinks industry with CO₂.

The dry ice produced is mainly used for the transport of foodstuffs. Sudan exports meat to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Egypt and other countries, primarily by air freight.

The Modern Acetylene & Oxygen Company Ltd operates two independent dry ice pelletisers to ensure a continuous supply of dry ice at all times. In the event of maintenance work on one of the pelletisers, the second machine can handle the orders. This ensures dry ice production and means that production orders can be fulfilled at any time without delay.

A growing market is the pharmaceutical industry, which ships samples using dry ice to maintain the products’ cold chain. Restaurants also regularly order small quantities of dry ice for food decorations and ice cream. The Modern Acetylene and Oxygen Company Ltd. aims not only to meet the requirements of its local market but also to expand the supply of dry ice to airlines.

Dry ice blasting is also a growing business in Sudan. The Modern Acetylene & Oxygen Company Ltd. recently received an order to supply dry ice to a local biscuit factory. The conveyor belts in the production area required a thorough clean, and this was successfully carried out using dry ice blasting technology. Our customer is supporting the biscuit factory’s staff in the application of dry ice blasting technology to continue achieving excellent results. The benefits of dry ice blasting technology are self-explanatory: outstanding cleaning results, increased productivity, as well as time and cost savings, and no blasting agent residues, which is gentle on the environment.
