Säntis AG shines with ASCO

Säntis AG, based in Rüthi, Switzerland, and a market leader in co-extruded multilayer films and injection-moulded packaging solutions for the food and non-food sectors, uses a dry ice blasting machine from ASCO KOHLENSÄURE AG to clean its injection moulds gently and efficiently during production. This enables the company to manufacture moulds more cost-effectively.

Injection moulding is one of the most widely used processes for manufacturing plastic parts. At Säntis, an injection moulding machine is used to melt the material in question and inject it under pressure into a mould. To remove any residual material adhering to the moulds afterwards, the long-established company Säntis AG decided to clean the mould components using dry ice.

Mr Gartler, a design engineer at Säntis AG, explains the benefits ASCO dry ice blasting offers the company: “Cleaning the injection moulds with ASCO dry ice blasting technology has been very worthwhile for us. This cleaning method has the advantage that we can clean the moulds very gently yet efficiently. As it is not necessary to remove the moulds, cleaning can be carried out directly in the machine, which guarantees shorter downtime and greater cost-effectiveness. This allows us to drastically reduce maintenance times – a crucial factor for success, as it increases production efficiency.”

ASCO offers dry ice blasting machines specially developed for the plastics industry. The latest ASCO blasting machine – the ASCO Nanojet – was launched just recently. Injection moulders in particular appreciate this new launch, as it enables significant cost savings in mould and tool cleaning. Key features of ASCO dry ice blasting technology include very simple handling, low air consumption and a handy blasting gun with a short, specially developed plastic nozzle.

José Fernandez, ASCO Application Engineer/Dry Ice Systems Sales, explains ASCO’s pioneering position in the field of dry ice blasting: “The ASCO blasting process is not just a cleaning method, but a comprehensive concept in which quality assurance and process reliability are the top priorities. The diverse range of applications for dry ice blasting has still not been fully explored. ASCO has therefore specialised in offering bespoke solutions tailored to specific industries and customers.”
