Could you briefly introduce yourself and your company?
We are a leading supplier in the aviation industry and specialize in the development and production of high‑quality components and modules for cabin interiors. At our Laupheim site, we manufacture sidewalls, ceiling panels, overhead bins, partitions, crew rest compartments, and climate control components, among other products. These elements are essential for equipping modern aircraft and contribute to safety, efficiency, and comfort on board. In my role, I am responsible for the industrialization of new products and support the optimization of existing serial production processes to ensure the highest levels of quality and efficiency.
What role does your company play in the aviation industry?
We are what is known as a Tier 1 supplier, which means we work directly with major aircraft manufacturers and provide them with our customized solutions. Our service portfolio includes the development, production, and delivery of new parts as well as spare parts for the aviation industry. In addition, we offer specialized solutions for the retrofit business with airlines to upgrade or modernize existing aircraft.
With this broad setup, we can respond flexibly to customer requirements and provide innovative solutions for cabin interiors.
What special requirements or standards do you face in your industry?
The aviation sector is one of the most demanding industries worldwide, as the highest quality and safety standards apply here. Every component we manufacture undergoes strict inspections and must withstand extreme loads. As a production site in Germany, we also face direct competition from international manufacturers, which requires continuous optimization of our processes. Efficient, safe, and economical procedures are therefore essential to meet customer expectations and remain competitive.
What cleaning methods or technologies did you use before dry ice blasting?
Before introducing dry ice blasting, we used other non-abrasive cleaning methods. These were designed to treat sensitive surfaces gently, but often required special environments such as closed cabins or separate cleaning areas, which made the process less flexible.
What challenges do you face in cleaning or maintenance?
Our biggest challenges involve several factors: many surfaces that require cleaning are extremely hot, which complicates the process. Additionally, we often work with heavy tools that are difficult to handle. Many areas are also hard to reach, and achieving thorough cleaning without disassembly was often only possible to a limited extent.
What motivated you to choose the ASCOJET 1701? Were there specific criteria that were particularly important to you?
For us, the device’s easy handling in our industrial environment was essential. It was especially important that the machine is quickly ready for operation while offering high performance. The unlimited endurance strength and the available performance reserve convinced us, as we needed a long‑term reliable solution.
For which applications do you use the device?
We primarily use the dry ice blasting machine for tool cleaning, especially for our 500‑ton press. Effective yet gentle cleaning is crucial here to extend tool lifetime and keep the production process efficient.
How often and how long do you use the device in practice?
The device is used as needed and depending on the degree of contamination. As soon as cleaning becomes necessary, we use it specifically to ensure optimal results without causing unnecessary downtime.
What immediate benefits did you observe after introducing the dry ice blasting machine?
Since implementing the machine, we have seen a significant improvement in our cleaning quality. A major advantage is that we can now perform intermediate cleanings without having to dismantle the tools extensively. This saves valuable time and enables a more efficient production flow without compromising cleanliness or quality.
Have you received feedback from employees or customers regarding the use of the device?
Our colleagues in production are very satisfied with the cleaning performance and appreciate the flexibility of the system. The cleaning is effective and noticeably simplifies daily work. The only drawback is the noise level of the process, which cannot be avoided – but we address this through appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize noise exposure for employees.
